Vocab Lock uses Apple's Screen Time framework to block the social media apps you select. Each day, you complete a short vocabulary session (learning new words, reviewing flashcards, and passing a quiz). Once you pass, your selected apps automatically unlock for the rest of the day.
When you first open Vocab Lock and select apps to block, the app will request Screen Time authorization through Apple's standard permission dialog. Tap "Allow" to grant access. The app uses Apple's FamilyControls framework, which is secure and keeps all app data on your device. You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings > Screen Time.
You can lock any app installed on your device. Most users lock social media apps like Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, YouTube, Reddit, Snapchat, and Facebook. Free users can lock up to 3 apps, while Pro users can lock unlimited apps.
Go to the Settings tab in the app and adjust your "Daily Words" slider. Free users learn 5 words per day. Pro users can customize their daily word count from 5 to unlimited words per session.
Vocab Lock uses OpenAI's API to generate vocabulary words, translations, definitions, and example sentences tailored to your selected language and difficulty level. The AI creates fresh, contextual content so you get varied and relevant vocabulary each session. No personal data is sent in these requests.
No. All your learning data, progress, streaks, and settings are stored locally on your device. We don't have user accounts or a server-side database. The only external services we use are OpenAI (for vocabulary generation) and RevenueCat (for subscription management). See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Pro unlocks all 15+ languages, unlimited words per day, unlimited app locks, 3 streak freezes per week, no ads, and word export. Pro is available as a monthly plan ($9.99/month) or yearly plan ($39.99/year with a 3-day free trial).
If you reinstalled the app or switched devices, go to the Settings tab in Vocab Lock and tap "Restore Purchases." This will re-activate your Pro subscription using your Apple ID. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe.
